Why Your Goss Press Reconfiguration Cost More Than Quoted

  5. What happens if the press doesn't meet those tolerances? Is that in writing?
  6. Who provides training on the new configuration, and how many days are included?

  8. Who handles printer cartridge recycling, the plant or the vendor? That's not a throwaway line, it's an environmental compliance cost.

Then compare quotes using total cost over three years. Include the cost of downtime per day. Include the probability of an overrun based on the quote's specificity. A $10,000 lower quote with vague scope is almost always more expensive.

I kept asking myself whether a vague quote was worth the risk. The upside was saving $10,000. The risk was losing six weeks of production. The math said no.

Goss itself offers press reconfiguration services, and their heritage is real. But the name on the brochure isn't the same as the name of the crew on site. Ask for the crew's experience with web offset registration and alignment. If you use an independent integrator, hold them to the same standard.
